3. The engine oil keeps the engine clean. Even the smallest of contaminants deposited into an engine can cause serious damage if not removed. The role of the lubricant is to retain contaminants while it filters and separates from the oil.
4. Oil cools the engine. Heat is produced by combustion and friction of the engine components. Antifreeze is only responsible for cooling the upper part of the engine. The remaining engine pistons including the camshaft, crankshaft, and synchronizing gears, and all other critical parts are cooled by the motor oil
